Iran Is Killing Christians

Dear Family,

For the past couple of Sundays, I’ve been writing about Iran. While Iran may move in and out of the news cycle, the pressure on Christians continues to increase. The leaders we work with have been able to get word out of the country, and the situation is desperate.

Christians who were peacefully protesting have been killed. Others have been severely wounded after being shot with pellets. Now Iranian officials are pulling church leaders from their homes and hauling them to prison.

The situation is dire. Many people can no longer afford even basic food.

These Christians’ impact is huge. You may have heard that the church is growing faster in Iran than almost anywhere else in the world (per capita). I believe it is among the top nations where Christianity is exploding. What you may not have heard is that Iran may also be the leading example of where Islam has failed.

Iranian young adults are fed up with the Islamic regime and are ready for a change.

By our estimates, 80% or more of young adults have turned their backs on Islam—in a country that claims 95% of its population is Muslim. 

Iranians long for freedom. The turmoil inside the country is far worse than is typically reported. It reminds me of the days when communism fell in Romania and then across Eastern Europe. Many people don’t realize that in Romania, the fall began when Christians publicly gathered to pray in a park.

Please be praying for Iran. We may be on the brink of one of the greatest revivals ever witnessed in the Persian world—a revival that could spread across the Arabian Peninsula and throughout the Middle East.

However, this Sunday we are making a different request, a simple one. 

We need to help Christians buy food. We need to help them with basic, day-to-day survival. We know God is moving in a historic way in Iran, and we eagerly await what He will do. But today we must meet a very practical need.

We obviously cannot feed every Christian in Iran who is without food. But we can do what we can.

Thank you for praying for Iran. May I even suggest fasting a meal or two and joining me in prayer—asking God’s Spirit to move in a way we have never seen before in the Middle East.
